Why Visit an Orthodontist Instead of Your Regular Dentist?

Braces Are One of the Most Common Orthodontic Treatments

Our Dental Procedures are Designed to Improve Your Oral Health and Appearance

Our Philadelphia practice serves Bala Cynwyd, Bensalem, and surrounding areas with the primary goal of offering a wide range of both dental treatments and orthodontic procedures at an affordable and reasonable price. All of our treatments aim to improve the health and appearance of your smile, all while enhancing your confidence. In fact, straighter teeth can minimize your need for periodontal care and restorative dentistry in the future. During a visit to our office, we can help you weigh the benefits of Invisalign versus braces, as well as our other effective treatment options. We excel in treating even the most complex orthodontic cases and can easily combine procedures for a comprehensive smile makeover.

Smiling young girl with bracesWe specialize in braces for both children and adults. For children with malocclusion (a situation in which the teeth do not come together properly), braces are an ideal way to fix a flawed bite. For adults, who currently make up 20 to 30 percent of our patients, braces can assist with self-esteem as well as aesthetics. Young or old, braces improve the appearance of your smile while fixing poor dental alignment that can cause early tooth loss and gum disease down the road.

At our offices, we provide patients with a number of options when they receive braces. While traditional metal braces are available in several different colors, we also offer nearly invisible ceramic braces that are just as effective. These ceramic braces are a good idea for those who need braces but may feel self-conscious about wearing them.

Regardless of what kind of braces you receive, it's important that you observe good oral hygiene throughout treatment. We recommend that you spend a few minutes each day examining your braces with a mirror to make sure they are clean and in good condition. You will need to give up certain foods such as bubblegum, hard candies, popcorn, and tough meats when you have braces. This is to ensure you do not bend the appliances or spend an excessively long time cleaning them.

Some people want straight, sublime teeth but don't want braces for a number of reasons: You may have to give up your favorite foods, the wires and brackets can cause discomfort, braces can potentially cause speech impediments, or they may make you feel self-consciousness about smiling or opening your mouth. For those who want a lovely smile but don't want braces, Invisalign® is the answer you are looking for. Although the cost of Invisalign may be slightly higher than the cost of braces, many patients consider the option a great investment for several reasons.

The new Invisalign® system is virtually undetectable and much more comfortable than traditional braces. Invisalign® utilizes custom fitted aligners made of a sturdy, durable clear plastic that fit over your teeth. The aligners, which are worn at all times except when eating or drinking, will help guide misaligned or crooked teeth into position creating a straight, healthy, and happy smile. Though you'll wear the aligners for the same duration as you would have worn braces, you'll achieve that winning smile without anyone else knowing about your orthodontic treatment.

Our skilled orthodontic staff will evaluate your case and determine if you are a good candidate for Invisalign®. If you are eligible for the procedure, we will develop a personalized treatment plan and cast aligners just for you.

Fast Acting Adult Braces (FAAB)

Over time, some people may notice that their smile doesn't look as perfect as it used to. Teeth can turn at funny angles and pristine dental alignment can slowly grow crooked. Orthodontists admit that such changes are natural occurrences as your teeth gradually move due to the effects of chewing, wear, and pressure from mouth muscles and your tongue.

Thanks to modern advancements in orthodontic treatment, naturally occurring tooth misalignment is something that can be corrected. With the new Fast Acting Adult Braces (FAAB) treatment, your teeth can be straightened quickly and with relative ease. Candidates for FAAB must have fully matured jaws, relatively straight tooth roots, a well-aligned bite, and little if any crowding of the teeth. While by no means a complete replacement for orthodontic treatment, FAAB can potentially restore a once straight and beautiful smile to its former glory. To find out if you're a candidate for FAAB, contact us today.

Those who've had to wear braces or endure other orthodontic treatment for an extended period of time can attest to the adage that "The hardest part is the waiting." Some adolescents may feel self-conscious or uncomfortable wearing braces for up to three years and some adults may not have the time to dedicate to a standard braces treatment. With the revolutionary Wilckodontics® procedure, however, your orthodontic treatment time is drastically reduced. In some cases treatment requires only one quarter of the time it would regularly take.

Also known as Accelerated Osteogenic Orthodontics™ or AOO™, Wilckodontics® pairs corrective orthodontics with dental surgery in order to straighten teeth quicker. The surgical procedure is performed under anesthesia to ensure your comfort. By making bones in your mouth more malleable, your teeth can be aligned in a much quicker fashion. An added benefit to Wilckodontics® is that the procedure can potentially enhance bone support for your teeth and face.

Since Wilckodontics® involves dental surgery, there is an estimated recovery time of a week to ten days. You may experience some swelling and may be administered a painkiller after the procedure.

"Retainers Only" Treatment

Some cases of malocclusion and bite misalignment are drastic and require a major orthodontic procedure. In other cases, however, the tooth misalignment is relatively minor but ought to be treated to achieve the shimmering smile you deserve.

An in-depth orthodontic procedure is a labor-intensive, expensive, time-consuming inconvenience that need not be employed in such instances of minor misalignment. To comfortably solve your problem, our office offers a "retainers only" treatment. No more hassle with wires and brackets and no more need to give up the foods you love. Now you can enjoy a relatively easy orthodontic treatment for a minor case of crooked teeth. To find out if you're a candidate for a "retainers only" treatment, contact our Philadelphia practice serving Bala Cynwyd, Bensalem, and surrounding areas today.
