Dentures Provide a Solution for Partial or Complete Tooth Loss

Extensive tooth loss affects every aspect of your daily life, making common activities more difficult. Dentures can replace full dental arches for patients missing all or most of their teeth, allowing you to chew, speak, and smile with confidence. At Kellyn Hodges Orthodontics in Philadelphia, PA, we offer traditional dentures, as well as implant-supported dentures, which provide superior stability and jawbone health benefits.

What Are Dentures?

Dentures can help restore a smile after significant tooth loss. These restorations are comprised of prosthetic teeth and a gum-colored base. They can either rest directly on the gums or on dental implants embedded into the jawbone.

Dentures are generally recommended for patients who have lost most or all of the teeth in the upper or lower jaw. Each denture is customized to blend beautifully with the patient’s smile.

Who Is a Good Candidate?

Patients with extensive tooth loss are generally good candidates for dentures. During a free consultation at our office, your doctor will determine your candidacy based on whether you:

  • Have healthy gums
  • Are missing an entire arch of teeth
  • Have some healthy remaining teeth
  • Have extensive damage or decay that require extractions

If you are interested in implant-supported dentures, you must also have sufficient bone density to support dental implants.

Types of Dentures

When it comes to dentures, there are a variety of options to choose from. While meeting with our team, we will help you determine which restoration is best suited for your needs and budget.

Traditional dentures sit directly on the gums and remain in place using suction and dental adhesive.

Traditional Dentures

At Kellyn Hodges Orthodontics, we offer both partial and full traditional dentures. The type recommended will depend on the severity of your tooth loss. They can be made from a variety of materials, such as polymer and acrylic, but will include a gum-colored base and realistic artificial teeth to match your former smile.

Full dentures replace an entire arch of missing teeth and are secured with a combination of suction and a dental adhesive. For less extensive tooth loss, we typically recommend partial dentures. In addition to the gum-colored base and artificial teeth, partial dentures have small metal clasps that fit securely around nearby teeth.

Traditional dentures are less invasive than dental implants and provide an affordable solution to replacing missing teeth. Once your dentures are secured, you can enjoy immediate results, realistic aesthetics, and improved self-confidence.

Implant-supported dentures provide an unrivaled level of comfort, stability, and oral health.

Implant-Supported Dentures

Rather than resting atop the gum ridge, implant-supported dentures are secured to dental implants. These tiny, screw-like posts are inserted into the jawbone during a minor surgical procedure and designed to function like natural tooth roots. Once the implants have fused with your jawbone, the dentures are attached to the posts using a small connector known as an abutment.

Although implant-supported dentures come at a higher price tag and have an extensive healing period, they provide better durability and lasting results. Patients who choose implant-supported dentures enjoy many great benefits, including:

  • Improved comfort
  • More realistic results
  • Optimal dental function without slippage or speech issues
  • Enjoyment of favorite foods
  • Restored self-confidence

Dental implants also stimulate the jawbone, preventing the tissue loss often associated with missing teeth.
