Adult Braces Philadelphia
Orthodontic Solutions for Adults
Orthodontics has long been viewed as a specialty in dentistry intended for young patients whose teeth are still developing, and therefore are easier to correct. However many adults are now reaping the benefits of orthodontics through adult braces. At our orthodontic practices in the Philadelphia area,Dr. Kellyn Hodges treats many adults who are looking to correct malocclusions and crooked teeth, in hopes of attaining a beautiful, healthy smile. Adult braces do take longer than their adolescent counterparts, due to the lack of growth in adult teeth, but the results are just as transformative and lasting. As with adolescent braces, a retainer must be worn following adult braces to ensure the teeth do not revert back to their former state. During a personal consultation with orthodontist Kellyn Hodges, she will explain all of your available orthodontic options, as well as detail the process involved with adult braces.
Options for Adult Braces
Many adults are candidates for orthodontics, and they are steadily gaining popularity; even actors like Tom Cruise have worn adult braces. At the Philadelphia-area orthodontic practices of Dr. Kellyn Hodges, we offer a range of orthodontic options for adults. For many adults the primary concern is aesthetics, and how adult braces will affect their personal appearance. Luckily with our array of orthodontic options we have solutions to fit a variety of needs, as well as budgets.
Traditional Braces - Metallic, traditional braces are what most people associate with orthodontics. They are the most commonly used orthodontics appliance and are the most economic solution as well. Treatment times vary, but average about two and half years, though it can take longer with adults.Invisalign® - An inconspicuous and convenient alternative to traditional metal braces, Invisalign® is a popular treatment option with our patients. Over the treatment period, an average of about one year, the patient will receive nearly thirty different trays that will slowly reshape the structure of your teeth, just as with traditional braces. The trays are made from transparent plastic, making them nearly invisible, and can be removed for eating, brushing, and flossing.
Fast Acting Adult Braces (FAAB) - FAAB are for people looking for a quick cosmetic orthodontic solution. Treating only the anterior teeth, FAAB is often used in combination with other cosmetic dentistry procedures, such as veneers. Treatment usually take between 6 and 10 months.
Retainers Only Treatment - For adults in need of only minor adjustments, the use of a retainer may be all that is necessary.
Wilckodontics - Designed specifically for adults in need of dramatic orthodontic transformation, who do not wish to undergo years of treatment. By combining oral surgery with traditional braces, results are attained in 6 to 8 months.
