Overbite Correction

An overbite isn't just an aesthetic issue. If left untreated, it can lead to various health issues and decrease your quality of life.

Luckily, Kellyn Hodges Orthodontics can prevent overbite in children or correct the issue for teens and adults.

Learn more about overbite and how we can counteract its effects with orthodontic treatment at our offices in the Philadelphia, PA, area.

Our Philadelphia-area practice can reposition your front teeth to enhance your smile.

When Should You See an Orthodontist?

The first signs of overbite tend to show in younger patients as their jaw develops and permanent teeth move into place. We recommend scheduling your child for an orthodontics appointment when they are around seven years old. By that time, we can see how your child's jaw is developing and recommend orthodontic care when necessary.

Can You Fix Overbite in Adults?

Yes, Dr. Kellyn Hodges and her dedicated Philadelphia team can correct overbite and other forms of malocclusion in adults. However, preventing or treating overbite in children is generally easier since their jawbones are still developing. For some adults with an overbite, jaw surgery may be the only viable solution for correcting the condition.

Treatments for Overbite

Our team serving the Philadelphia, PA, area offers several orthodontic treatments that can treat overbite in children and adults, such as braces, Invisalign®, retainers, and more. Dr. Hodges and her greater Philadelphia team can help you find the right treatment to suit your unique needs and lifestyle.

Braces

Traditional braces can reposition your teeth over time and gradually change how your upper teeth sit in comparison to your lower row.

Invisalign

Like braces, Invisalign® can correct the alignment of your teeth over time using removable trays. Many patients prefer Invisalign because it has little-to-no impact on your appearance.

Retainers

After the main phase of orthodontic treatment, we may instruct you to wear retainers to help maintain the position of your teeth and jaw.

Extractions

In some cases, we may need to extract teeth to make room for correcting the alignment of other teeth. We do everything in our power to prevent extractions, but sometimes they are necessary to prevent oral health issues down the line.

Jaw Surgery

For many adults, jaw surgery may be the only course of action to correct extensive cases of overbite. Our orthodontics team can combine jaw surgery with other forms of orthodontics to fix severe bite misalignments.
